CATTLE HEALTH SCHEME
Advance Cattle Health Scheme Logo The NationWide Laboratories Leeds Advance Cattle Health Scheme has been designed with those dairy or beef herds in mind that are moving on from doing little or no disease monitoring to proactive herd health planning.

CHeCS Logo Accreditation schemes have historically been perceived as the preserve of elite pedigree herds. The Advance Cattle Health Scheme offers the education and laboratory testing framework to bring the benefits of disease control within the reach of any cattle farmer.

The Advance Cattle Health Scheme provides;
  • A triangular partnership of laboratory, veterinary surgeon and farmer aimed at increasing farm profitability
  • Diagnostic ‘toolbox’ tests designed to identify disease and improve herd health
  • Rational and economical use of medicines and vaccines
  • Farm and practice support
  • Participation in Cattle Health Certification Standards (CHeCS) for accrediting freedom from BVD, IBR, L hardjo and Johne’s disease
Laboratory tests offered in the Advance Cattle Health Scheme include;
  • Serology for BVD, L hardjo, Neospora, Johne’s, IBR, Fluke, M bovis, PI3, RSV, adenovirus, pre-purchase screens
  • Biochemistry for downer cows, unthrifty calves, trace element deficiencies, the transitional cow and colostrum transfer
  • Bacteriology for mastitis and bacteriology, virology and parasitology for scouring calves
  • Parasitology for anthelmintic management
For those new to the scheme we have provided a Frequently Asked Question section to help answer some of the more common enquiries about how CHeCS operates.
