Emergency Vaccines

The Leeds laboratory has been licensed by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate to manufacture emergency vaccines since 1986. Emergency vaccines are useful to control bacterial diseases where there is no suitable commercial licensed product. They are manufactured from field isolates recovered on-farm, so if organisms you may wish to be used in a vaccine are isolated by another laboratory - for example the VLA or SAC - it is important to ask that they are stored appropriately prior to shipping. Each vaccine must be licensed under VMD regulations - appropriate application forms are provided on request..

Our most commonly requested cattle vaccines are for Campylobacter fetus abortion and for viral papillomas. Autogenous wart vaccines are made from tissue retrieved from affected animals to promote rapid recovery from infection and can be made on an individual basis without a licence, although licensing is required if the vaccine is for herd use. Popular emergency vaccines for pigs include Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Pasteurella multocida. CLA emergency vaccine is the most frequently requested sheep vaccine. We also manufacture vaccines for a variety of other applications - follow the links for more information and do not hesitate to contact the lab if you have any further queries.
